The month of February was a busy month for the brothers of Sigma Pi.
Auburn Province Workshop
Members of our Executive Council and other leaders among the chapter were invited to the Auburn University chapter of Sigma Pi to partake in a Province Workshop hosted by Province Archon Jeff Cline, Director of Chapter Management Scott Quinlan, and UGA Sigma Pi Alumnus Allen Yee. During the workshop, we went over the state of the fraternity, talked about ways for the Executive Office to better serve chapters across the country, and how to become a better leader. Thanks to Jeff, Scott, and Allen for their time and thanks to our brothers at Auburn for hosting!
Spring Initiation
The Spring 2020 class was initiated following a successful new member education period where they learned about the fraternity's history, how the chapter operates throughout the year, and how to become better men in today's world. These seven guys, led by New Member Educator Max Withers, are images of what a Sigma Pi man looks like and the chapter is excited to see how these men will shape our future.
UGA Miracle's Dance Marathon
Sigma Pi participated in UGA Miracle's Dance Marathon, a 25-hour event benefitting the Children's Miracle Network and Children's Healthcare of Atlanta at Scottish Rite. UGA Miracle is the largest student-run philanthropy at UGA and is the philanthropy for the UGA Interfraternity Council and Panhellenic Council. Many brothers of Sigma Pi are heavily involved in UGA Miracle leadership and many more are members of various committees such as Family Relations, Sponsorship, High School Outreach, and Hospital Relations. This year, Sigma Pi was fifth among all fraternities at UGA for fundraising, raising over $11,000 for the Children's Miracle Network. We also had 5 brothers raise over $1,000 individually for the organization, which is a record for Sigma Pi. We hope to continue our high involvement with this organization next year, and continue raising money #ForTheKids.
Founders Day
Sigma Pi was founded on February 26, 1897, and every year the fraternity hosts an annual banquet around this date to celebrate our history with undergraduate and alumni brothers. This year, our Founder's Day banquet was hosted on February 29th, and brothers both old and young came and enjoyed the festivities. Attendees enjoyed a catered lunch, live music, and cross-generational brotherhood. We also awarded the Mike Sparky Bushaw Scholarship (awarded to the brother with the highest GPA out the newly initiated pledge class) to Benjamin Coffie and the William Mark Reed Scholarship (awarded to the brother with the highest GPA) to Evan McKenna. To cap off the festivities, we awarded Brother of the Year to Charlie Deyo and Alumnus of the Year to Sidney Wright. We'd like to thank Eric Santana for putting together such an awesome event and hope more alumni continue to become engaged with the chapter and attend these events.
